Provide an automated entrance for an Amsterdam pharmacy as part of an independent research study to determine the impact of automatic doors on energy use and visitor traffic.
Many Dutch shop owners ascribe to an “open-door philosophy” in which the assumption is that shops with doors that stand open all the time appear more inviting and therefore attract more customers. This practice is particularly costly in the winter months due to the amount of energy needed to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the shop.
The 9-month was study was conducted at the Amsterdam branch of DA Drugstore and Perfumery, a large Dutch pharmacy chain. Both energy use and customer counts were monitored before and after the installation of the Besam automatic sliding door.
Besam installed a UniSlide Telescopic sliding door and a horizontal air curtain with an intelligent connecting unit. The air curtain is activated when the door is open and shuts off as soon as it is fully closed. Not surprisingly, the energy savings was significant as the cost of heating the shop was reduced by 43%.
But equally important for the shop owners was the data revealing that the number of customers entering the store after the installation was virtually unchanged from the numbers generated by the “open door policy.”Besam has also been contracted to conduct regular service and mainteance of the entrance, helping to keep it performing optimally in terms of both convenience and energy savings.
